The calendar ring
The fifty-two years around the wheel, and the New Fire when they close

What the calendar ring is
The fifty-two years of the Mexica century set around the wheel: the 365-day count and the 260-day one come back into step every 52 years, and that closing is the ring.
The New Fire was the ceremony that closed the fifty-two-year cycle. Every fire was put out and a new one lit. The app marks when it falls.
A Mexica year comes round every fifty-two. That is why years carry names — 1-Tochtli, 2-Ácatl — and the name returns once a century.
The year bearers are the four signs that can give a year its name: Ácatl, Técpatl, Calli and Tochtli. The other sixteen never do.
