The method

How something gets onto this site, and how it gets taken off

The three rules

Provenance by assertion. Each claim carries the source it rests on, in place.

Discrepancies published, not settled. Where sources disagree, the figures appear side by side with their origin.

Gaps declared. What is not known is said. A gap stated is worth more than a gap filled in, and the second is what makes the rest untrustworthy.

What follows from them

This site gives five correlations for the calendar rather than one, because no consensus settles which is right.

It declares a timbre as invented where it was invented, and as measured where it was measured — and does not call either attested, which would be a third thing.

And where a figure in the model does not match the real one, it is declared and not adjusted.
