Dresden Codex
The Maya book of the sky tables
What it is
One of the four Maya books that survived. It is kept today in Dresden, in the library that gives it its name.
Its most cited pages are sky tables: that of Venus, that of eclipses and that of Mars.
Why it is on this shelf
Because its tables run on the same 260-day count. It is the only non-Mexica codex in the app, and that is why its entry says so in the first line.
Its reckonings, with their figures — Mars in three exact rounds, Venus reaching 104 years by its own road — are read in The cycles of the sky.
Read this entry in Spanish, where the sixteenth-century sources are quoted in full.
