Your sky at birth

The Moon, the Sun and Venus, computed from Tenochtitlan

The sky is not illustrated: it is computed, with astronomy, from the coordinates of Tenochtitlan. The phase of the Moon, the position of the Sun and where Venus stood on the day you were born.

Venus is the one that weighs, and not on a whim. The sources record that its reappearance as the morning star was read with attention: it was a marked moment, not just another astronomical fact. The app gives it that weight on the days it happens, as they read it.

If you choose, your returns count too: the days when the Moon, the Sun or Venus are back where they stood when you were born. It is an option, not the default.

And all of it happens on your phone. Your birth date and time never leave it: there are no accounts and no servers to send them to.

Questions that reach this page

Does the app really compute the sky, or is it an illustration?

It is computed. The phase of the Moon and the positions of the Sun and Venus come from astronomical ephemerides, for the date you give and from the coordinates of Tenochtitlan. It is not a decorative drawing that changes shape.

Why does Venus weigh and not the other planets?

Because it is the one the sources record. The reappearance of Venus as the morning star was a marked moment in the sixteenth-century record; for the other planets there is no equivalent reading, and nothing the sources do not give is added here.
