What they are

Three widgets: the day, a word in Nahuatl and the Mexica clock. They sit on the home screen and update themselves without opening the app.

No data used at all: the calculation happens on the device and there are no network requests. The refresh is the system's own, once a day.

The Mexica clock shows the hour within the Mexica day, which does not begin at midnight.

The walk of the day is among the things that never expire, once the twenty-day trial is over.

The Nahuatl word of the day, in more detail

It is the widget people ask about most, so it is worth saying what it carries.

Each day a Spanish word that was already Nahuatl, with its etymon, its gloss and its entry in fray Alonso de Molina's Vocabulario (1571) — the first dictionary of Nahuatl, and what backs every entry.

cacahuate, from tlalcacahuatl — «cacao of the earth»: the cacao that grows under the ground. hule, from olli — the tree gum the ball game was played with. petate, from petlatl — the woven palm mat that rolls up into a bed.

And some correct what everyone repeats. Chocolate is the best case: the form xocolātl that circulates everywhere is not attested in the early sources. The Spanish word is certain; the exact etymon is still disputed, and there is more than one proposal in the literature. The widget says so rather than taking the comfortable version as settled.

The word of the day is not random: the count picks it. The same tonal day always gives the same word, and it does not change between phones or on reinstalling.
