Two counts of lords accompany every day
Besides the number and the sign, two counts of lords accompany each day. The Lords of the Day order the hours of light: work, sowing and shared rite. The Lords of the Night govern the darkness, when omens and destinies were read.
Nine of the Night, thirteen of the Day
There are nine Lords of the Night and thirteen Lords of the Day, and that difference has a consequence. Thirteen and thirteen match, so each Lord of the Day always falls on the same number. Nine does not divide 260, so the Lords of the Night keep shifting: the same tonal day does not always carry the same one.
The Night is the intimate face — who you are when nobody is watching. The Day is the public one — how you present yourself, and it carries its companion bird.
How this is made
Each entry says what the sources attribute to that lord and which source it is. Where a source is silent, the gap is declared rather than filled in.
