What they are
Thirteen, one for each numeral of the count. They govern the hours of light, and each is followed by a bird that the sources name alongside it.
They are not to be confused with the nine Lords of the Night, which run on their own wheel and are given to a different part of the day.
Because there are thirteen of them and thirteen numerals, each lord always falls on the same numeral: a day with numeral 1 always carries the same Lord of the Day, whatever its sign.

Who are the Thirteen Lords of the Day?
Thirteen deities that accompany the days, one for each number: Xiuhtecuhtli with the one, Tlaltecuhtli with the two, and so on to Cihuacoatl-Ilamatecuhtli with the thirteen. Because there are thirteen Lords and thirteen numbers, each one always falls on the same number, unlike the Lords of the Night.
